D Rothon - Lonesome Echoes (Awful Lonesome edition) - expanded download edition of his Clay Pipe 3" CD release
The origins of its name lost in the mists of time, the village of Lonesome emerged in the 19th century from the swampy, isolated lands between Streatham Vale and Mitcham Common. By the early 1900s intrepid reporters were already speculating on whether the place was mere myth. The intervening years saw the rapid rise and fall of Lonesome. Its prospects as a desirable place to live were compromised by the combined fragrances of piggeries plus chemical, fireworks and gas mantle factories – which would undoubtedly have overpowered the sweeter aromas from the nearby lavender fields of Mitcham. It also gained a reputation as a haunt of footpads, vagabonds and cutpurses. A failed development by one “Squire Blake” of aspirational middle class villas – which became known as Blake's Folly – helped cement Lonesome’s reputation as a ghost town. Now long subsumed into suburbia, aside from the odd street and building name little trace remains of Lonesome. Tracks 2, 6, 8 and 10 were issued as an EP by Clay Pipe Music. The remaining tracks are also taken from the Lonesome-inspired sessions. David Rothon: Omnichord, pedal steel, theremin, keyboards, Bentley Rhythm Ace, digital drum programming, acoustic, electric, baritone and bass guitars, Stylophone, percussion, Indian harmonium, harmonica, melodica, banjo Special thanks to… Ed Deegan: drums on tracks 3 and 6 Johanna Warren: flute on tracks 8 and 9 Artwork by Frances Castle (as featured on the original Lonesome Echoes CD)

Getting to Know...
Ferris & Sylvester.
Critically acclaimed duo Ferris & Sylvester recently released the video for their new single ‘Flying Visit’. Filmed in stark black and white, the video captures the pair performing to an empty village hall, interjected with moments of stillness, isolation and loneliness. View it below.
The release came ahead of Ferris & Sylvester’s debut appearance at Glastonbury Festival last month, where they played a number of shows across the weekend. After a killer debut at SXSW and a standout Maida Vale session this year, BBC Introducing invited the duo to play their stage at Glastonbury. Watch a performance from that set below.
The band also recently announced their largest headline tour yet, where they will play bigger venues across more towns and cities than their sold out debut tour back in February. The 20-date UK & Ireland tour runs throughout September and October with the full dates listed HERE.
We were lucky enough to have a quick chat with the rising duo about 'Flying Visit', their first Glasto experience, what they have planned next and more. Read the Q&A below.
Things are very exciting for Ferris & Sylvester right now! Please tell us about your journey so far.
"We met just over three years ago in a blues venue called Spiritual Bar in North London. We were both doing our own thing back then, but soon started writing together and it didn’t take long for us both to just focus on the duo set up. We’ve played a lot of shows! Over the past couple of years we’ve played over 100 each year. We set up our own label called Archtop Records and released an EP called Made In Streatham last year, which we recorded and produced in our kitchen. That EP has taken us on an incredible journey. We’re now working towards our first album and are setting out on our second headline tour round the UK in the autumn. So far, it’s been the most rewarding, weird and wonderful ride."
You recently released your new video for your latest single 'Flying Visit'. What was the inspiration behind the track and the visuals?
"We wrote ‘Flying Visit’ from a child’s perspective. We liked the idea of writing something straightforward and unashamed, as children are when it comes to love. There are no social politics or armour to carry around when you’re young which means you just say how you feel without being embarrassed, whether that’s simply ‘I love you’ or ‘don’t leave me’. The real message we wanted to get across is, it is ok to love people. When It came to the video, we wanted to keep it really simple and let the song speak for itself; so we decided to do something performance based. Simple and straightforward, in a run-down village hall. We teamed up with director, Sam Parish-Rookes once again for this one and as always with Sam, the process from the storyboard to the final edit has been a total journey and loads of fun. We are so proud to have made a piece like this."
You also played Glastonbury last month. What was that like? What did you love most about the festival?
"We did Glastonbury!! It was the first time for both of us and that made it really special. Doing 5 sets over the weekend was exhausting and meant we were wheeling our gear around in a wagon most of the time, having people recognise us as we sweated up the hills! But each show was worth it. A huge highlight was playing the BBC Introducing Stage. It was such an honour and the crowd was amazing. There’s always so much going on at Glastonbury and we were terrified no one would show up to watch. But people came and sang along with us, which was the best feeling. It really is like no other festival - the site is huge and there’s always something to do or amazing bands to watch. The energy of the place was on another level. All in all, a magical Glastonbury."
You have more festival appearances coming up and also your biggest headlining UK tour later this year. What is your favourite thing about touring and being on stage and performing live?
"It might sound like we’re lying but we genuinely look forward to every show we play. Being on stage and touring is the best bit for us, it’s where we feel most alive. The best part is playing our songs every night and having a totally different experience with each crowd. Each show or festival is different and that’s what makes it so exciting and addictive. We cannot wait to meet the people who have supported our music and decided to come down to a show - there really is nothing more rewarding. Likewise, it’s a real thrill to play to a festival crowd that may not know who you are. The game changes and we’ve got to win them over. It’s a great feeling to watch an empty field fill up…"
Apart from the upcoming shows, what else is next for you guys? Any new music?
"We’re writing the album. It’s been our priority this year, whether that’s locking ourselves away for a week and writing constantly, or writing on the road in-between soundchecks and in hotel rooms. There’s a lot of new music to be excited about and we can’t wait to lay it down. We’re taking it one day at a time, but we’re getting closer to getting it out in the world. New music is coming soon..."

D. Rothon - Lonesome Echoes - new EP from Clay Pipe Music is out today, and it is gorgeous (of course)
Mini CD available here: claypipemusic.greedbag.com Digital-only pre-order from Bandcamp. After the sell out success of the first series of Mini-CDs, Clay Pipe kicks off the second series with D.Rothons 'Lonesome Echoes'. D. Rothon’s third solo release for Clay Pipe, Lonesome Echoes, is a selection of four beautiful melodic instrumentals, featuring pedal steel, Omnichord, theremin, flute and live drums – and inspired by the long-lost south London village of Lonesome. “My curiosity about Lonesome started years ago when I noticed the name on the map in the London A to Z, not far from where I grew up. It seemed such an unlikely name. But it wasn't until recently that I discovered its slightly odd history…” The origins of its name lost in the mists of time, the village of Lonesome emerged in the 19th century from the swampy, isolated lands between Streatham Vale and Mitcham Common. Now long subsumed into suburbia, aside from the odd street and building name little trace remains of Lonesome.  Composed, Recorded and mixed by David Rothon at The Lonesome Depot, Crystal Palace Drums recorded by Ed Deegan at gizzard studios

Everything you need to know about Meningitis vaccination
Tumblr media
Meningitis is a dangerous disease as it affects membranes of the brain and the spinal cord. The disease is caused by viral and bacterial infections. Meninges are three membranes that cover the brain and the spinal cord. The inflammation of meninges is called Meningitis. The first few symptoms include fever with headache, vomiting, rashes, disliking lights, confusion, cold hands and neck stiffness. It often affects small children, teens and young adults. If not treated quickly, it can result in permanent damage to the brain and nerves. Meningitis is contagious and can spread through sharing of utensils, sneezing or coughing. This disease can be prevented through vaccination. If you are travelling, you are at a higher risk of getting meningitis especially if you are not vaccinated. Travel vaccinations at Thornton Heath can be availed at www.bidschemist.co.uk. Meningitis B vaccine can be administered to 8 week old babies with a second dose at 16 weeks and a booster dose at 1 years of age. This vaccine protects against meningococcal group B bacteria, commonly seen in young children in the UK. Meningitis ACWY vaccine is given to teens and fresher students heading out to university for the first time. Meningococcal groups A, C, W and Y are four types of bacteria that cause meningitis. Vaccinating your young teen children with meningitis ACWY vaccines will protect them greatly. Pneumococcal vaccines, Hib/MenC vaccine, 6-in-1 vaccine offer protection against a few causes of meningitis. If meningitis is caused by a bacterial infection (usually rare) it is more severe and the treatment lasts for about a week in the hospital. Intravenous antibiotics are administered along with other fluids and an oxygen mask has to be worn. If the meningitis has been caused due to a viral infection, then the treatment is not so severe. Anti-sickness medicines and painkillers help in providing relief, meanwhile the patient recovers in 7 to 10 days. Cefotaxime or Ampicillin are effective antibiotics against Meningitis, but should be taken only after proper consultation from your doctor or GP. Bids Chemist in Norbury, UK, is a travel clinic and are experts in travel vaccinations. The pharmacy has the necessary information regarding all vaccines and can even help you administer them with the help of able doctors. You can schedule an appointment online with just a few clicks at https://www.bidschemist.co.uk/. Croydon, Streatham Vale and Thornton Heath can access Bids Chemist with ease. If you are travelling abroad or have a new born child, vaccination against deadly diseases such as meningitis is the only available option and must be availed by all to minimise sufferings and also the spread of diseases.
